Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime Issues

Overview

finPOWER Connect version 4.0.0 and higher require the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime be correctly installed on your computer.

This is used within finPOWER Connect to display HTML and other content.


Note: The Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is automatically installed with Windows 11 and from June 2022 onwards with Windows 10.

Installation

Within finPOWER Connect, if the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is not installed the message "The Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is not installed on this computer." will be displayed instead of the expected HTML.


To check that the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is installed, go to Windows Apps & Features and search for "WebView" - you should see an item "Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime", if it doesn't appear it indicates it is not installed.


To install the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime go to https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/ and under the heading "Download the WebView2 Runtime", "Evergreen Bootstrapper", click "Download" and install.  Do not install a Fixed Version.


Not installed correctly

If the error shown in finPOWER Connect is "The Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is not correctly installed on this computer. The version found is x.x.x." followed by an error message, it can indicate:

  • Windows has recently updated the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime and needs to restart to complete installation.
  • The Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is corrupt.
  • The Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime has another issue. For example, from time to time an update from Microsoft may break the control's behaviour.


The suggested course of action is as follows:

  1. Firstly, try closing and restarting finPOWER Connect.
  2. If that doesn't fix the issue, restart your computer - if Windows has just applied updates it may need restarting.
  3. Reinstall the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime.
